Water, hair and skin
What’s hard water?
What’s hard water?
Water is categorised as either hard or soft, depending on the concentration of dissolved
minerals is contains. Hard water has high level of minerals, particularly calcium, magnesium and chlorine, picked up as the water flows through porous rock such as limestone or chalk.
How do I know if I have hard water?
How do I know if I have hard water?
Good question! Most water in the UK runs hard but some areas may be more affected than others. Another tell-tale sign is the build-up of limescale (white chalky stuff) in your showerhead, taps and kettle. And
although you can’t see it, this residue will also be on your skin and hair
How does hard water affect my hair and skin?
How does hard water affect my hair and skin?
Over time, the residue that hard water leaves on your skin can disrupt your natural PH balance and weaken your skin barrier, clogging pores and exacerbating conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.
It can strip hair of its natural oils and react with pigments in hair dye causing colour to
prematurely fade, turning blonde hair brassy and even green. Brunettes can experience texture change, while natural hair can become more prone to brittleness.
Plus, it makes your shampoos and cleansers work extra hard to lather and foam, meaning your use more product – and that can lead to product build-up which then affects scalp
health and even hair loss.

How does it work?
How does it work?
The ULA system uses an RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System) that purifies water and includes biofiltration, and a NF (Nanofiltration) filter, highly effective in removing calcium, magnesium and other harmful elements found in hard water.
By running your water through the ULA showerhead, you remove the majority of these hard water minerals, including chlorine and sulphates, before it touches your skin or
hair.
Designed in the UK, by a team of experts with a family history of more that 100 years in luxury bathrooms, who understand the importance of style and substance, the ULA is also the only showerhead to be WRAS approved and NSF certified.

How do I install my ULA Showerhead?
How do I install my ULA Showerhead?
Let’s do this!
- Gently remove your old showerhead from the shower hose (anticlockwise).
- The shower hose has a threaded end, which should have a washer inside (pictured). If there isn’t a washer or it’s damaged, we’ve included a spare in your ULA box.
- If you’re replacing the washer, simply push it into place, so when you screw your ULA showerhead on, the washer creates a watertight seal.
- Now it’s time to screw your ULA showerhead onto the hose. To do this, thread it on and turn clockwise. Hand-tighten only.
Enjoy your first ULA shower!

with the hole end pointing down to the shower hose. - Now reattach the base of the shower head by threading it on and turning it in a clockwise direction.
That’s it! You’re good to go again.
